@barcamp @ukgovwebcamp suggestions... #UKgov
I could not get into the Barcamp as i did not get on the list earlier enough:( last years BARcamp was great (and prob this years one too:) so I was hoping there might be a write up of the discussions? Is it possible to make future barcamps have an unlimited number of participants so people do not miss out on helping make gov even better? Also can I propose BARcampBAR.org for future barcamps?
Or a 24/7 self sustaing barcamp?…

Good afternoon all,
Sorry I could not make the UK Gov Barcamp - however, we are making plans for the 3rd Annual ScotWeb2 event in the summer Between then and now, let's hope there are more.
As our two national newspapers are declining, some brave folks have set up a third. It is on-line, will be interactive and citizen-centric and hopefully capture our children's attention more than current print versions. First day unique users exceeded the paid-for circulation of both existing paper titles.…

Participation in a democracy doesn't have to be seen as a threat to representative democracy. The two co-exist and have done for a long time. Those who seek to be defensive of the status quo may wish to frame it as an either / or question but it doesn't have to be seen this way. Participation and representative democracy can be seen as mutually enriching.
Online participation brings new opportunities, but there's a kind of almost automatic questioning that every new avenue of online particpatio…

How can we modify structures to maximise the long tail of innovation. How could it best be facilitated so everyone can contribute without comments being lots in the depths of the web? It seams that there is SO much potential for government and the public to achieve using new media. The key appears to be how to communicate this potential and empower everyone to take that step down the rabbit hole of independent innovation and collaboration at everyones own grass roots (though this has been done o…

Hi all!
It's nearly October 2009. If we are running another BarCamp in January 2010, we ought to start thinking about it.
There isn't much detail at the moment, other than to say that sometime in Jan, we'll all get together in London on a Saturday to talk about government, data, internets, and other fun stuff.
Here's what you can do:

Hello I haven't posted here before so hi to all. My background is e-democracy, e-engagement and e-participation. PhD in 2001 looked at significance of new technology for democratic participation and community development. Yesterday we had a lot of discussion about what it means to be local and providing a local view to people. We also had views from local politicians about using social media and how it helped to humanise their political persona and support informal dialogue with local people. And there was the beginning of some thinking around how councils can support local po…

Please note that the
teacamp planned for tomorrow at Cafe Zest in House of Fraser has been put back to start at 4pm rather than 2. We had quite a lot of feedback to say that coming out of work in the middle of the afternoon was a bit tricky, so hopefully making it later will suit more people.

The first BarcampUKGovweb had 50 session slots for around a hundred participants. Typically the sessions were 25 mins. BarcampUKGovweb09, although going on an hour longer, had only 30 slots for some 120 plus (?) participants. To me this ratio is getting just too far away from the spirit of barcamp: "8th Rule: ..., you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don't really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)"
I agree there doesn't have…
