Hi all!
It's nearly October 2009. If we are running another BarCamp in January 2010, we ought to start thinking about it.
There isn't much detail at the moment, other than to say that sometime in Jan, we'll all get together in London on a Saturday to talk about government, data, internets, and other fun stuff.
Here's what you can do:

Yesterday we had a lot of discussion about what it means to be local and providing a local view to people. We also had views from local politicians about using social media and how it helped to humanise their political persona and support informal dialogue with local people. And there was the beginning of some thinking around how councils can support local po…

Please note that the
teacamp planned for tomorrow at Cafe Zest in House of Fraser has been put back to start at 4pm rather than 2. We had quite a lot of feedback to say that coming out of work in the middle of the afternoon was a bit tricky, so hopefully making it later will suit more people.

The first BarcampUKGovweb had 50 session slots for around a hundred participants. Typically the sessions were 25 mins. BarcampUKGovweb09, although going on an hour longer, had only 30 slots for some 120 plus (?) participants. To me this ratio is getting just too far away from the spirit of barcamp: "8th Rule: ..., you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don't really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)"
I agree there doesn't have…

Thank you to everyone that joined in the discussion yesterday about the types of evaluation metrics that are needed when measuring government engagement activity.
You can add your thoughts to the
wiki page, which will be open for comment for one more week.
If you want to chat about this further give me a shout!

- What do technologists need to know about communications?
- What should communicators learn about technologies?
- Where does editorial responsibility/content ownership lie?
- Can communication be managed within interactive (web 2.0) channels? If so, how? In a top-down way or in a self-governing way?
- How do Facebook/Bebo/blogs/social bookmarking fit into a communications mix? (The peer-to-peer benefits are clear, the organisation to member/customer dynamic is

Hey, I take it all back, I think I’m beginning to get into the swing of Twitter.
Last week we launched OU_Life_News on Twitter and the number of followers that we have for it is slowly building.
Essentially it’s a news feed from our intranet news (which as regular readers will know will be changing in September anyway), but really it’s a bit of a test case to see whether or not it works before we start to do more with it.
Feedback so far:
- Updates should contain a direct link to the

The Cabinet Office has put together an amazing pack on an approach on Employee Engagement (complete with survey). The contents of this post, which is a draft of a paper that I am putting together for our Management Committee, is shamelessly stolen from the pack.
- Engaged employees in the UK take an average of 2.69 sick days per year; the disengaged take 6.19 1
- 70% of engaged employees indicate that they have a good understanding of how to meet customer needs, while only 17% on
