As an update to the research theme, I'm just starting on a project with Kevin Harris under the Networked Neighbourhoods organisation to research the impact of citizen-run local websites on neighbourhoods and the implications for local government.

The lead partners are London Councils. Other partners include Cisco, Cap Gemini, Central Office of Information and Talk about Local.

If you'd like to be kept up-to-date on what we're up to let us know at updates@networkedneighbourhoods.com

I'm interested in doing some research for my HCI masters project in this area. Does anyone know of any existing research in the UK into the way communities are using web 2.0 and social networking sites to improve and support their local community? I am particularly interested in attitudes and perceptions to using online communities and networks in this way. And how it might change perceptions of the role of local government.

The above needs a revamp but it is rife with localness. Thanks for the tip Phil.

Great idea, Phil! There are some great examples of the web being used to support local communities, like http://www.harringayonline.com/ and http://www.kingscrossenvironment.com/ which both take different approached but work well.

Hi all, as there seem to be at least three sessions offered to do with local stuff thought it might be an idea to try this group.
