Connecting before, during and after the UK government barcamp

There are a few deep, or wide-ranging, thinkers out there. The whole notion of collective strategy is alien to the on-the-bleeding-edge of social entrepreneurs that I have been lucky enough to be in contact with.

How do we share our ideas? The range is from beliefs, mode of communication, to institutional change at the global level. Twitter ain't gonna suffice. Nor is blogging. Not even a wiki, because people like Michel Bauwens is doing a huge job with his p2p foundation and it is just too vast for people to engage with.

So, here's a suggestion for the big thinkers out there. Produce a one hour video. It could be a recording of you chatting away, it might involve a slide-presentation. One hour to put across the grand plan, as concisely as possible, and in a way that even my mum could understand. The last bit is tricky. I certainly can't seem to explain my ideas to her, so the challenge is really something. Perhaps we are allowed to get super-technical, but that then relies on an "educated" audience.

So, if we produce a one hour video, stick it up on google, or cut it into six 10mins sections on youtube, we can then have a reasonably sensible way to compare our different grand plans. We can tweak them as we go along, as the months and years unfold. In this way, we can avoid the classic blunder that we have to agree at the outset, when really, we are coming from things from completely different places, perspectives, and perhaps even values. Diversity is our strength. And we need to harness this. Collective strategy is possibly the greatest challenge we face, as self-organising human beings unauthorised by hierarchical position.

Anybody out there?

be well
